I have been developing a body of work with and around my children, Ted (born 2018) and Ralf (born 2023), since 2021, under the collective title Did you know the sun is just another star? a question and a declaration Ted offered one day on our walk home from daycare.

To Ted, this piece of information seemed just another new idea in a mountain of new ideas that avalanche on him daily. As we went about our afternoon, me in orbit around him with the routine of dinner; bathtime; bedtime, I had the thought: “Just another son.”

Working across textiles and ceramics, the work emerges from our shared environment and is shaped by being with them. At times it includes direct contributions from Ted and Ralf; or , it is made in their presence through our routines and in response to the shifting dynamics of family life. The language of outer space and the universe, grounded in the domestic materials I use (ceramic, fabric, found sticks and leaves) offers a way to think through these proximities: distance and attachment, repetition and expansion, the vast and the intimate.

This ongoing project reflects on my experience of motherhood as both subject and condition. It is as much about my children as it is about my evolving sense of self; an identity still forming, still being negotiated, years in. The work becomes a practice of attention: to how we create alongside one another, how I support and frame their expressions, how we navigate authorship and agency, and how these moments are held, whether or not they are ultimately resolved into exhibited forms.
